Istvan Hiller invited Frederic Mitterrand to Hungary next year to attend events at the Pecs2010 European Capital of Culture scheme. The two countries plan to prepare a co-production agreement in the film industry which has been unprecedented since 1972, Hiller said. France will support co-production projects in Hungary and the French Ministry of Culture will inform producers that it may be beneficial for them to work with Hungary, he added.
The agreement will create jobs, attract further investment in Hungary's film industry and hopefully result in very high quality films, Hiller said.
Hungary will fulfil the presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2011 and this will attract increased attention from France to Hungary, he said. The cultural institutes of the two countries will cooperate to hold events connected to the Liszt anniversary, he added.
After meeting Mitterrand, Hiller went to the Hungarian embassy and granted the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Republic award to pianist Livia Rev, who has been living in Paris since 1946. The award was granted in recognition of her efforts to promote Hungarian music internationally.
