The play has been part of the programmes of the Mladi Levi festival in Ljubljana, the Naujosios Dramos Akcija in Vilnius, the Homo Novus in Riga and the Internationale Keuze organised by Rotterdamse Schouburg.
Critics in Ljubljana expressed appreciation for the dramatic aspects of the performance, saying that "frustration results in aggression, aggression leads to murder and eventually everything is blood-soaked....Within the framework of theatre, Kornél Mundruczó presents the social and human relations of an insular world. During this performance, the actors also get a chance to express an opinion, which is quite rare in theatre."
A critic for Vilnius paper Men faktra said, "The Frankenstein Project is a visually repulsive performance. Its aesthetic power results from the Hungarian actors' masterful skills to manipulate the audience. Initially, they create the illusion that they are equal participants in the project and can influence the events at any stage. But what's actually happening here? A reality show? An installation? The answer is that it's a fictional story and what appears to be an everyday social drama turns from one moment to the next into a blood-soaked thriller. It is terrible but not shocking. Why? Because everyday life in Lithuania appears to be very much like this and Hungary is probably no Paradise either."
Reviewers in Rotterdam said the key to the play's success was the powerful presence of the actors. "The Frankenstein Project...is an extraordinary story brought to life by a group of actors who manage to make the events perfectly believable."
The play will continue touring abroad in the spring of 2010.
