Cseke said he had planned to ask Timar to direct a play in Kecskemét but wanted the French director to get to know the troupe first. The aim is to invite at least one foreign director to work in Kecskemét each season in order to expand the local theatre's repertoire and its approach to productions, he added.
Timar's visit is also expected to create opportunities for joint productions with the Theatres des Halles and exchange performances.
Timar, whose father was Hungarian and mother Spanish-Algerian, said he was open to learning about the artistic values of other nations.
Timar established the Theatres des Halles in 1983 and has been its director ever since, overseeing 45 productions. In addition to directing, he is active in designing sets.
Timar has directed plays in the U.S., Italy, the Philippines and Hungary, where he directed Ionescu's Rhinoceroses in Nyíregyháza.
