The festival's chief organiser, Didier Dutour, has moved from Budapest to Bucharest to head the French Institute in the Romanian capital. And Unifrance, the festival's main sponsor, has pulled funding to promote French film in other countries, having achieved "all that was possible" in Hungary.
Unifrance still plans to bring French filmmakers to Hungary, but for premieres, not for festivals.
The French Film Festival in Budapest earlier hosted such famous guests as Audrey Tautou and Sophie Marceau.
