English

The first Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award will be presented to "a director making his or her debut with a film dealing with, in a broad sense, existential issues and displaying a dynamic or experimental awareness of the cinematic means of expression," the festival organisers write on their website.

Kocsis is competing at the festival with her first feature film "Fresh Air", which tells the story of a fashion-conscious teenage girl and her mother, who staffs a public toilet.

The Göteborg International Film Festival, to take place on January 26 - February 5, will show films from 60 countries around the world.

Ingmar Bergman will chair the film festival's jury. Jury members will include the renowned film directors Agnieszka Holland and Jafar Panahi as well as university professors Maaret Koskinen and Stephen Ujlaki.

"Fresh Air" made its debut at the 37th Hungarian Film Festival, where it earned a Sándor Simó Award. It has since been invited to participate at more than 30 international film festivals. The film received the main award in Brussels, the critics' award in Warsaw and the student jury award in Bratislava.

The film will be on general release in Hungary from Thursday.
