Fresh Productions on Contemporary Drama Festival Programme

English

In addition to the productions, presentations, conferences and learning programmes will be on the programme of the festival which is taking place for the eighth time. The aim of the festival remains to show visiting professionals and tourists alike the best of contemporary Hungarian theatre. Many of the productions in Hungarian will be shown with supertitles or simultaneous interpretation in English.

One of the basic tasks of the event is to show the world's theatre festivals, producers and other professionals what happens in Hungary, said Katalin Bogyay, Hungary's UNESCO ambassador and the main sponsor of the Contemporary Drama Festival Budapest. "We have the opportunity to inspire the world, but we must also allow ourselves to be inspired," she said.

Festival director Mária Szilágyi said productions on the programme had to meet two important criteria: they show what is new in contemporary Hungarian theatre and reflect the value of Hungarian theatre as a whole, and they serve as a starting point for a dialogue with members of international theatre life.

Among the Hungarian language theatre productions on the programme are Béla Pintér and Company's Parallel Hour, Encounter by the Gergye Krisztián Company, Studio HOPPart's Surpriseparty, The Stonewatcher by the Szabadka Folk Theatre of Vojvodina, Lorenzaccio and Egg (S)hell by the Maladype Theatre, and Phaidra Fitness by KoMa - ALKA.T.
