Gallery Transforms Rubbish Bins Into Art

English

The gallery recently announced 15 winning designs for rubbish bins intended to liven up some of Budapest's busiest squares. Curator for the project Délia Vékony said the gallery had received 69 applications for the project, which was announced in March. Most of the applicants are young people who work with fine arts, applied arts or graphic arts.

Vékony noted that Budapest's residents are already familiar with big public art projects, recalling last summer's Cow Parade.

Among the winning designs is a rubbish bin with giant lips by Márton Bojti, a "selective waste" bin by Andrea Vékony, one covered with pearls by Alma Abonyi and an art nouveau bin designed by Zsili Babos. Áron Baráth envisions a bin with a cloud pattern, and Zolta Árvay has created a bin for "spiritual rubbish".
