Managing director Attila Simon said Herend maintains and nurtures Hungarian traditions and values, but also considers the promotion of European porcelain makers an important task.

The Porcelain Queen, who has been elected each year since 2003, was travelling outside of the ?porcelain road? ? the region in the north of Bavaria where more than 80 percent of German porcelain is made ? for the first time.

In her entourage was Hans Michael Stockhammer, deputy mayor of Marktleuthen, a centre of porcelain making and the sister city of Herend, where the Herend Porcelain Manufactory is based.

Herend mayor László Vajai dedicated a plaque on Friday to mark twenty years of partnership between the two communities.
