The palace's renovation started 15 years ago and is slated to be completed in 2015, said Mihály T. Révész, who heads the not-for-profit company overseeing the project. So far 26 percent of the palace's area has been renovated and another 11 percent will be renovated in the fourth phase of the project. The entire renovation is to cost HUF 2.6 billion.

In the fourth phase of the project, two of the palace's wings will be renovated, along with a terrace and a grand staircase. More than 50,000 square metres of the palace's gardens will be restored to their original state.

The local council is looking for investors to share the cost of a project to convert the former home of the palace groundskeeper into luxury commercial accommodations.

The palace attracted 181,000 visitors last year, generating HUF 200 million in admissions. By 2011, the number of visitors is expected to grow to 360,000, Révész said.
