(MTI) - The 11,000 sqm centre, built from 6 billion forints (EUR 21.6m) to become one of the top cultural facilities in the country, was inaugurated on December 16, the 128th birth anniversary of eminent Hungarian composer and music teacher Zoltan Kodaly.

It seats one thousand, which makes it Hungary's biggest multifunctional venue west of the Danube.

The city welcomed the decision that the national government would provide financial stability for the centre's operation, which costs about 700 million forints (EUR 2.5m) annually, Zsolt Pava said.

Kodaly Centre venue will be the first venue in a city outside Budapest to be operated from the central budget, he added.
