The Ministry of Education and Culture expressed its condolences for the loss.
The poet Géza Aczél said Kass he was never afraid of change and always incorporated the latest techniques in his work, such as holograms, laser and computer graphics. Kass always elevated his work above mediocrity while avoiding the pressure of cultural policy.
Kass was born in Szeged on December 26 in 1927. After working with ceramics, he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts between 1946 and 1949, then at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1949 and 1951. He won a silver at the Brussels World Expo in 1958 and worked at the Academy of Graphic and Book Arts in Leipzig in 1960 and 1961. He was a teacher at the typography department of the College of Applied Arts from 1967 and editor-in-chief of New Writing magazine between 1965 and 1973.
Kass's work was exhibited in the UK, Italy, France, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United States. His most important works can be seen in Szeged's János Kass Gallery.
Kass was a two-time Mihály Munkácsy Prize-winner and twice received the award of the Leipzig book art fair for best illustrated book.
