Brook's new production will premiere at the Théatre du Bouffes du Nord in Paris in April. It will come to Gyula on June 29 and 30 as part of the 5th Shakespeare Festival, a festival taking place within the framework of the 49th Gyula Castle Theatre, said festival director József Gedeon.
The festival within a festival will also include a production of As You Like It, directed by Attila Vidnyánszky, Macbeth by the theatre of Yerevan, and the award-winning production of Romeo and Juliet by the OKT/Vilnius City Theatre of Lithuania directed by Oskaras Korsunovas. The London Baroque Ensemble and the well known soprano Emma Kirby will bring Shakespeare in Love to the festival on July 4.
The Gyula Castle Theatre will perform the premiere of its own production of Psyché, written by Sándor Weöres and directed by Árpád Sopsits, to the stage on July 15.
On July 22, the Gyula Castle Theatre will celebrate the composer Ferenc Erkel, who was born in Gyula, with excerpts from his operas and other compositions performed by Ilona Tokody and others.
The Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre will bring the Freddie Mercury tribute A Bohemian Rhapsody to Gyula on July 31 and August 1. Directed by Tibor Miklós, it will feature György Szomor, Miklós Varga, Vera Tóth and Gabi Tóth.
The Örkény Theatre from Budapest will present Cat's Play on August 3. A piece based on the life of Imre Kálmán, entitled King of the Operetta and directed by Miklós Hídvégi, will conclude the festival on August 7 and 8.
As in previous years, a jazz festival will offer a musical intermission for the Gyula Castle Theatre. This year's festival, slated for July 18-19, will feature The Syndicate, a group formed by the late keyboardist Joe Zawinul, Super Trio, Zoltán Lantos's Mirrorworld, Big Daddy Wilson from the United States, Ripoff Raskolnikov from Austria and the Szabolcs Nagy Trio.
