Happy New Life, based on events in the director's life, follows a young Roma man, raised a ward of the state, as he searches for his identity.
The Cinema Tout Ecran jury, which was chaired by the cinematographer Renato Berta, picked Bogdán's film from 15 in the competition.
Bogdán was awarded the Simó Sándor Prize at this year's 38th Hungarian Film week for Happy New Life. The film has since been seen by festival audiences in Rio de Janeiro, Reykjavik, Warsaw and Seville.
Happy New Life will open in Hungarian cinemas on December 6.
