The Esterházy Castle will host the 4th Haydn String Quartet Festival in September. Haydn is considered to be the "father of the string quartet" as it was he who transformed the Rococo chamber string quartet into a distinct genre during his years in Esterháza. The Haydn String Quartet Festival features new as well as long-established quartets from Hungary and other European countries who play modern and period instruments. In addition to concerts, the festival offers a master course for young musicians.
On October 1, World Music Day, Budapest's Palace of Arts (MUPA) will host a "Haydn cross-over" concert featuring a fusion of classical, folk and world jazz. The Jánosi Ensemble will explore the Austrian, Croatian and Hungarian folk roots in Haydn's music, while the Hungarian jazz band, Mirrorworld will present the distinguished composer's works in jazz arrangements.
