Twenty heavy medal bands, among them six big international acts, will plug into their amplifiers in the afternoon and play a twelve-hour marathon into the early hours of the morning.
Budapest?s first MetalMania festival was held last year. The event is a sister to the Polish festival of the same name.
The list of Hungarian bands will include Stereochrist, The Dethroners, Gire, Vale of Tears, Remorse, Casketgarden, Black Leaves, Nadir, Prompt, Autumn Twilight, Variola, Wackor, and Baby Bone.
Of the international bands to appear on stage, Charon are from Finland, Soilwork from Sweden, Nevermore from far-away Seattle and Anathema from Liverpool. But the biggest attractions will be Portugal?s Moonspell, who play exotic metal, and another Swedish band, Therion, who mix opera with metal.
The Bulgarian band Korozy will close the evening at Petőfi Hall, but devoted fans can continue headbanging until 4am at the after-party, to be held at the Marco Polo Club.
Petőfi Hall is at Zichy Mihály út 14, in the Városliget park. To get there take trolley bus number 70 or 72, or the number 1 tram to Erzsébet királyné útja, or take the yellow underground to Hősök tér or Széchényi fürdő and walk through the park.
