Attila Simon said Herend had a big lead ahead of its competitors, which include Cartier, Tiffany, Rosenthal, Meissen and Givenchy, according to a survey by market research company Luxury Institute. The Americans questioned in the survey rated 29 world-famous brands by quality, uniqueness, exclusivity and price. Herend received top marks both in the uniqueness category as well as in the overall rating, Simon said.

Herend's most popular products in the US are highly-decorated vases and figurines, but tea sets and dinner sets are also much sought after.

Herend's US sales come to USD 5-6 million a year. The company's total revenue reached HUF 5.5 billion in 2006, with exports generating 75-80 percent.
