One of the props is a giant violin - 22 metres long and weighing 2.5 metric tonnes. The violin, which consists of an eight-piece steel-sheet frame covered with canvas, took two weeks to assemble, says Kázmér Tóth, the manager of Scabello, the company which built the set. He adds that the set is even more monumental than the giant steps for a production of Nabucco built by the company two years earlier.

In addition to the violin, Kentaur has designed an 11-metre by 6.6-metre high-heeled shoe, complete with a door, ladder and wheels.

Scabello has much practise making challenging sets, having built stages for The Vampire Ball, Producers, and The Comedy of Errors.
Countess Marica will be performed three times in Szeged starting on July 27.

The production is directed by Enikő Eszenyi and stars the world famous Hungarian opera singer Gyöngyi Lukács, who is singing in her native language as well as playing an operetta role for the first time. Supporting Lukács will be Zoltán Nyári, Géza Tordy, Csaba Pindroch, Ervin Nagy and Levente Király. The musical conductor will be István Silló.
