English

 Endre Senkálszky

At a celebration in the theatre's grand hall, a greeting was read from theatre historian József Kötő, and Melinda Kántor wished Senkálszky happy birthday in the name of the theatre. The Báthory Lyceum presented the actor with the scarf of their society, and local Hungarian language daily Szabadság gave Senkálszky a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of sparkling wine.

Senkálszky said the kind greetings and the celebration gave him renewed strength and confirmed that his 75 years on the stage had not been in vain.

Senkálszky was born on October 2, 1914. He started out as an amateur actor, then became a travelling actor in the 1930s. He signed a contract with the Cluj theatre company in 1939. Between 1949 and 1954, he was a teacher at the Hungarian Institute of Arts in Cluj, and from 1964 until 1969, he was the director of the State Hungarian Theatre of Cluj.

Among the roles Senkálszky played were Ádám in Madách's The Tragedy of Man, and the title role in József Katona's Bánk bán. He was also active as a director, bringing a cycle of 14 Greek tragedies to the stage over three years from 1978.
