The exhibition, which runs until July 2, marks the hundredth anniversary of Elisabeth Brunner?s birth, said centre director Imre Lázár.
The two Brunners came to India in 1930 and spent two years at Tagore?s university, painting many portraits of the poet. The two met Gandhi in 1934 and the younger Brunner painted his portrait.
The mother and daughter met Nehru in London in 1938, and the two grew closer after Elisabeth Brunner moved to Delhi following her mother?s death. Indira Gandhi also became a close friend.
The Brunners? portraits are on display at the National Gallery of New Delhi and the Indira Gandhi Art Centre in India. In Hungary, their work can be seen in Budapest at the Hungarian National Gallery and the Ferenc Hopp Museum, and in Nagykanizsa at the Brunner Collection.
