The programme in the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), on October 7-27 shows the invaluable contribution of Hungarian filmmakers to American cinema during the heydays of Hollywood, the age of New Cinema in the 1970s and independent film in the 1980s. The three-week programme focuses on lesser known titles, opening with Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise with Hungary's Eszter Balazs in the lead role.

The 17 films shown here have Hungarians as producer, script writer, composer or actor, such as George Cukor, Zoltan Korda, Bela Lugosi or Vilmos Zsigmond.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) will show Hungarian veteran director Bela Tarr's selections of movies which had the most influence on his work. MoMa will also celebrate the 15th anniversary of Tarr's landmark film Satantango.

The programmes have been organised as part of the ongoing "Extremely Hungary" cultural season in the United States.
