Hungarian Composer for Choir Wins European Competition

English

Gyöngyösi won the competition with his composition ?Te lucis ante terminum?, beating submissions submitted from eight other countries. Gyöngyösi composed his motet for mixed choir based on a Latin hymn. The piece, written in 2003, is dedicated to Péter Tóth. The motet follows the original three-part structure of the text. It is written in F sharp, but also echoes tonal changes and harmonies which recall ancient church modes.
