Special events will be required to attract attention, and the smaller events can be attached to the large-scale events, Orsós said in Budapest. A block-like arrangement of programmes best suits New York's cultural life, he added.
The season is expected to start with a concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Carnegie Hall on January 24, Orsós said. Talks are also underway with some of New York's most important cultural institutions on hosting events. These include Lincoln Center, the Frick Collection, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the International Center of Photography and the Morgan Library, he added.
The core events will be contemporary and classical music concerts and exhibitions of fine and applied art. A theatre programme organised together with Lincoln Center is expected to start already next year.
The cultural season will include a special film project, and preparations are being made to present Hungarian literature as well, Orsós said.
The events will include productions that can also travel to other cities, Orsós said. The season is expected to run throughout 2009 and some events will continue in 2010.
