The front of the medal bears a miniature of a relief of Vasari by the Hungarian sculptor Sándor Tóth that won a prize in Florence a few years ago. The back shows part of Vasari?s The Annunciation, which hangs in the city of Szeged?s Móra Ferenc Museum.
The painting, a commission by Pope Pius V in 1569, was authenticated two years ago.
Bronze and silver copies of the medal were placed in the Vatican Museum last week, said Historia Ecclesiastica Foundation head István Zombori.
