The exhibition entitled Carl Lutz and the Legendary Glass House in Budapest commemorates Switzerland's vice-consul in Budapest, who rescued some 62,000 Jews from deportation to Nazi death camps between 1942-1945. Lutz issued tens of thousands of "protection letters" to members of the Jewish community and set up "safe houses" in the capital, where many escaped deportation. One of the most famous among them is known as the 'Glass House', an old industrial building downtown, where over 3,000 Jews found refuge and protection. It opened in 2005 as a memorial museum.

The exhibition was opened on Tuesday as the first event of the Holocaust Memorial Month organised by the Hungarian Embassy between March 24 and April 29.
