The piece is not a biography of the Hungarian-born Liszt but a piece born of the obsession with the composer in which ballet has a highlighted role, according to the writers of the libretto, György Selmeczi and Sándor Silló.
I wanted to put the piece in an international context, with the cooperation of Romanian television, said Selmeczi, who composed ?Hungarian Faust?.
Selmeczi, who is also the director of the Cluj Napoca Hungarian Opera, said ballet dancers, prose actors and the orchestra all play important roles in the production along with the opera company. ?It would have been nice to write off the epic parts, but Liszt cannot be brought to life ?only? as an operatic hero,? he added.
Selmeczi revealed that the story of the production takes place within the framework of Liszt?s Faust Symphony, but is made up of a pastiche of other works by the composer.
