Szekeres's short film La Belle Époque, about the Beslan school hostage crisis in 2004, has been showing in Hungarian cinemas for three months.
The festival, known also as the LA Shorts Fest, provides a good indicator for Oscar material - more than 20 films which debuted at the festival over the past several years have been nominated for an Academy Award, and eight of these films eventually went on to win.
La Belle Époque showed in competition at the 38th Hungarian Film Week as well as at the 2006 Pécs International Film Festival.
