The Hungarian stand at the festival was of exceptional importance to the country's film industry, said Vezér.

The highlight of Hungary's presence at the German film festival was the participation of director Szabolcs Hajdu's new film Bibliothéque Pascal in the Forum section. Screenings of the film, which took the top prize at the 60th Hungarian Film Week, drew big crowds.

Zsuzsanna Kálomista, managing director of HungariCom, which negotiates foreign rights for Hungarian films, said the festival was a big success for the country's film industry. The French rights for three Hungarian films were sold at the Berlinale, after three years of minimal success at the event, she added.

The three films that were sold were Krisztina Goda's film about the 1956 Hungarian Revolution Children of Glory, Gergely Fonyó's Made in Hungária and the animated film by Gábor Csupó Immigrants - Jóska go America!

Foreign rights for a further three Hungarian films were also sold at the festival, said Kálomista.
