Hungarian folk singer Sebestyen UNESCO Artist for Peace

English

 Sebestyén Márta

Since the start of the programme, this is the first time that a Hungarian artist has been chosen as a celebrity advocate, said Hungary's UNESCO ambassador Katalin Bogyay at a ceremony held at the British Embassy in Budapest.

After receiving the title, Marta Sebestyen quoted Bela Bartok, who wrote in 1931 that the influence of Romanian, Slovak and Arab folk music, as well as far-away and nearby cultures should be embraced.

The Artist for Peace title has been received by such internationally famous artists as singer Celine Dion, actress Marisa Berenson, singer-actress Shirley Bassey and saxophonist Manu Dibango.
