Liapis said in his opening remarks that many Greek nationals have found Hungary to be a land of promise over the centuries.
Hiller said Greek contributions had become an organic part of Hungary's culture. "We must make joint efforts to cultivate the past and shape the future in the spirit of the common Europe," he added.
The exhibition, on display in the library's main assembly hall, includes such objects as an Evangeliarium from the 11th century, said library director László Szögi.
ELTE rector Ferenc Hudecz noted that the university is the only one in Hungary that offers a course in modern Greek.
