Hungarian Illustrators Vie For Prizes in Bratislava

The illustrator Krisztina Rényi, a member of the Hungarian chapter of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), said the artists participating at BIB would not show prints or finished books, but original work. Among the Hungarians whose work is in the running are Rozi Békés, Dóra Keresztes and Krisztián Szántói, as well as the Kossuth Prize winners Marcell Jankovics and Líviusz Gyulai.
 
The winner of the top prize, as well as of five ?Golden Apples? and several certificates will be announced on September 2.
 
The Hungarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava will open a show of new work by 30 book illustrators on Tuesday, said Tóth. About half, such as Rényi, Kinga Rófusz and Katalin Szegedi illustrate children?s books while the rest, including József Szurcsik and Antal Vásárhelyi illustrate books for adults.
