Hungarian Jazz Singer Releases Album in Japan

English

 Nikoletta Szőke

Szőke launched the album with her band at Tokyo's Cotton club on Friday. The club is operated by the Japanese imprint of jazz publishers Blue Note, even though the new album was made by Atelier Sawano, a Blue Note competitor, with who Szőke has signed a four-album contract.

Sales of the album were at the top of the advance orders chart at the local outlet of music retailer HMV.

The new album, which follows Szőke's Song For You, also big in Japan, features pop songs and some original compositions - which Szőke wrote in collaboration with her husband bassist József Horváth Barcza - as well as jazz standards.

"Sleep My Love was a big surprise for my husband when I gave him the lyrics and he realized that it was about him," Szőke said.

Szőke will perform at the Budapest Jazz Club on March 8 and again on April 9.
