Festival director Aldo Sisillo said the two-week programme, which takes place between August 25 and September 7, would feature performances of work by the Hungarian composers Liszt, Bartók and Kodály as well as Ferenc Erkel, Ferenc Lehár and Imre Kálmán.

?Hungarian music is complex and diverse because it combines the most important Central and Eastern European trends and also includes echoes of Balkan and eastern music,? he added.

Hungary?s Savaria Symphonic Orchestra, under the baton of the Kossuth Prize-winning Tamás Vásáry, will launch the programme with a concert in the city?s Saint Dominico church on Saturday.

Cittá di Castello will host concerts by the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, Kálmán Balogh and the Gipsy Cimbalom Band, the violinist Roby Lakatos and the Kodály Quartet.

Orchestra Toscana, conducted by László Kovács, will close the festival.

A separate concert series will be dedicated to sacred Hungarian music, and courses will be held on the Kodály method of musical instruction.

Hungarian theatre performances, film screenings and cuisine will round out the festival programme.
