On the programme for the concert at Vienna's Konzerthaus will be Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies, Brahms's Hungarian Dances and Khachaturian's Sabre Dance, as well as audience favourites such as the Monti Csárdás and Pacsirta. As an acknowledgement for their Austrian hosts, the orchestra will also play the Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka and music from the film The Third Man.
Though the orchestra, which was established in 1994, has never played in Austria before, it has toured Japan, Canada, Australia and the United States.
The artistic director of the Hungarian National Gypsy Orchestra is Ferenc Sántha Jr., a winner of the Liszt Prize and the Kossuth Prize, among Hungary's highest honours for artists.
