Káel was asked to lead a roundtable talk on the contemporary staging of classical opera, based on the experience of MUPA. Participants at the talk included top managers from the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Seattle Opera.
Káel said MUPA?s practice of bringing to audiences half-staged opera performances or ones with minimal sets won over many of those at the roundtable talk.
Káel said such productions present a challenge because of the refined acoustics of the concert hall which give a new dimension to works.
He said similar interest was shown by professionals at a recent meeting of the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) in Seoul.
Káel attended the annual meeting hosted by the NCPA with a representative from the Hungarian State Opera.
