Hungarian Pianist Plays Concert Trio in Warsaw

English

The first concert took place at the Wilanów Palace, where Érdi played works by Bartók and Mozart, marking the 125th anniversary of Bartók?s birth and the 250th anniversary of Mozart?s. Of course, the concert also included pieces by Poland?s great composer Chopin.

On Sunday, Érdi played a concert in Lazienki Park, the biggest park in Warsaw. Few foreigners have played on the park?s stage ? shared with a giant statue of Chopin ? where an all-Chopin programme is the rule. The young Hungarian pianist did not disappoint in this respect, but he did end the concert by playing Bartók?s Allegro Barbaro, which the crowd met with a standing ovation.

Antoni Grudzinski, the president of the Chopin Society, lavishly praised Érdi?s performance:

?I have seen a fantastic artist in the person of Tamás Érdi, who plays Chopin even in his youth as a mature 50-year-old artist. Many make the mistake of trying to bring something to Chopin and thereby fail to exceed the average. Now that is a mistake! Tamás on the other hand plays exactly what Chopin wrote, what he felt and what he intended to give the public. I thank the Hungarian Cultural Institute that they have brought us this by now great artist. We?ve already agreed with the institute?s head to invite Tamás Érdi to play a concert in Żelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Chopin, next year.?

The third concert was at the elegant Powsin Botanical Gardens, where Érdi became the first Hungarian pianist to play at the venue.

The local press and television featured coverage of all of the concerts.
