Maszk chairman József Balog said the Pass-port project would involve three productions this year: one showing the lives of Serbs in Vojvodina, another that focuses on Szeged and the surrounding area, and a third that presents cross-sections of the two plays. He added that, in addition to the Kosztolányi Dezső troupe, two Serbian actors from the Subotica Folk Theatre and two artists from Szeged would appear in the productions which will be directed by András Urbán.

The pieces can be seen in the spring and the autumn at the Old Synagogue in Szeged as well as in summer at the THEALTER festival. The Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre will put the pieces on their own programme in Subotica.

Director Urbán said a collection of experiences would precede the creation of the theatre pieces. He said the actors would move outside of their usual professional circles and interview residents on the Serbian and Hungarian sides of the border.

Szeged and Subotica are both close to the Hungarian-Serbian border.

Urbán said the answer to how people view their own destiny and environment, and what they think about their lives beyond the border would be sought on the basis of hundreds of conversations.

He said a background document would be prepared based on the results of the actors? sociological research and it would be used as a source of inspiration for the theatre pieces. He added that a documentary film would be made of the entire process, from the interviews to the rehearsals to the unconventional performances.

The Pass-port project has a budget of about 100,000 euros of which 85 percent is from European Union funding.
