The orchestra will take the festival?s world music stage with Heaven Street Seven, Balkán Fanatik, Swetter, Belmondo, Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra (PASO), Magdi Rúzsa, Isten Háta Mögött, Budapest Bár with László Kollár-Klemencz and András Lovasi, Hiperkarma, Ferenc ?Caramel? Molnár and Veca Janicsák. Each act will perform a couple of songs with the orchestra.
István Jónás, CEO of public broadcaster Magyar Rádió, recalled a similar initiative with the cooperation of Gypsy musicians in 1925. Listeners can only be rewarded by hearing new renderings of popular songs, he added.
Sándor Balogh, who is in charge of putting the popular artists and the orchestra in sync, said classical musicians generally like participating in such projects, citing experience with one earlier such programme with the Berlin Philharmonic.
Sziget Festival managing director Károly Gerendai noted that the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra had prepared a symphonic version of Heaven Street Seven?s hit Ez a szerelem already last year.
