Hungarian Tartuffe is ?Brilliant? - La Razón

English

The piece, called Moliere: Tartuffe, Written by Lajos Parti Nagy, and directed by Róbert Alföldi, was performed at the Almagro 2010 international festival for classical theatre.

In the review of the performance, headlined ?Storm of Applause for Tartuffe?, the critic Miguel Ayanz wrote that the performance was a fresh rendering of Tartuffe, full of life. It was entertaining, genuine and light, although the climax was bitter ?as truths can be?.

The audience was at odds over whether the lead, Zsolt László, more closely resembled Harrison Ford, Sting or Ralph Fiennes, but it was clear that the talent of the troupe was outstanding, Ayanz said, calling special attention to Judit Csoma, Dorottya Udvaros and Tünde Murányi.

The choice of the play by the festival organisers was good for everybody, Ayanz said. The National Theatre got a chance to raise their profile in Spain and Spanish audiences got to see an intensive and lasting theatre event.

The paper La Tribuna de Ciudad Real also had kudos for the performances. The National Theatre has brought a 21st century adaptation of Moliere to Almagro, guarding the substance of Tartuffe ?without any extraordinary dramatic intervention or putting machine guns into the hands of the actors?.

The production has received several invitations from abroad.
