The Hungarian National Theatre's production of Ice, directed by Kornél Mundruczó, took three prizes at the Mess Festival in Sarajevo in October. Daily Dnevni avaz named it the best performance, the jury gave the production a special prize and it took silver in the Central European category.
Mundruczó, who is a well known film director, also recently directed a play called The Gospel of Judas or Betrayal is Your Passion, which has received excellent reviews, at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg.
The Hungarian director Viktor Bodó was nominated for this year's Nestroy Prize for his production of Die Stunde da wir nichts voneinander wußten at the Schauspielhaus Graz. But the top prize went to Martin Kusej.
An adaption of Chekhov's Platonov, entitled Fatherlessness and directed by Yuriy Kordonsky, by the Örkény Theatre of Budapest was well received by audiences at the 9th Seoul Performing Arts Festival in early November.
