The new Estonian translation is by Sven-Erik Soosaar, and it is published by Verb. The volume is the first in a series by the publisher, which will also host a reception ? complete with fine Hungarian wine ? to mark the book?s release.
Hamvas, a writer, philosopher and social critic, produced ?The Philosophy of Wine? during a single sitting in the summer of 1945. Hamvas presents in his book wine as a phenomenon of cultural history and spirituality. He argues that the consumption of wine results in a mental state that is superior to everyday perception. Intoxication is the first step toward true vigilance, when one realises details which may otherwise go unnoticed, he writes.
