Bencze, who studies music at the University of Pécs and plays with the Pannon Philharmonic, competed against two Americans in the final jury round of the contest. He is one of few Europeans to take the top prize.
Bencze won the first prize at last year?s Szatmár Brass Music Festival and he was named ?absolute winner? at the International Trombone Festival in Brno in 2009.
Bencze?s teacher is the Liszt Prize-winning trombonist Péter István Farkas, a member of the Hungarian State Opera.
Bencze will play as a soloist at the Bourgeois trombone competition in the spring of next year.
