Hungarians Awarded Holcim Prizes

A sawmill, an industrial building and an intelligent solar house were awarded prizes by the Hungarian jury.
 
András Beke?s forest sawmill received a prize in the next generation category, while István Kistelepi Jr.?s industrial building and a solar house designed by Attila Szabadics and János Szász were awarded prizes in the architecture category.
 
The prizes were awarded at a ceremony at the Swiss embassy in Budapest on Thursday.
 
The independent jury included László Szekér of the Association of Hungarian Architects, former prize-winner Péter Janesch and deputy chair of the Chamber of Hungarian Architects Attila Ercsei.
 
President of Holcim Edward Schwarz said that more than 6,000 submissions had been received from 146 countries around the world this year for prizes totalling 2 million dollars
 
This year?s golden prize at the European regional finals was awarded to a German team called Realities United for a project on the city?s museum island. The Flussbad project involves the conversion of an underused stretch of the Spree river into a 745-metre natural pool.
