The festival, which was initiated by the prime minister, is not only meant to offer ethnic Hungarians a chance to show themselves in Hungary but it might also "help to modify the misconception that Hungarian art beyond its borders is akin to folk art," according to its organisers.
As part of the Biennale, a special music programme called By the Danube will be presented on the Pest riverbank between the Erzsébet Bridge and the Chain Bridge.
Admission to the Biennale is free of charge.
