Hungary Allocates Support for Non-Classical Musicians

English

A total of HUF 56 million will be made available in three tenders this spring to promote contemporary Hungarian non-classical music.

In one tender, applications will be accepted from bands seeking co-financing to produce their first recording. A total of HUF 16 million will be available for applications to be submitted by April 4, 2008. Successful applicants will be awarded HUF 300,000-500,000 apiece.

In the second tender, professional Hungarian bands that already have a recording may apply for co-financing for their next album. The total available under this tender is HUF 28 million, with HUF 400,000-600,000 going to each successful applicant.

Both of these tenders aim to support the publication of music that faces difficulties in a market-driven environment.

The third tender aims to help talent scouts. Organisers of competitions can apply for funding if the event involves a professional jury that evaluate live performances. Competitions that allow winners further opportunity for professional development will be favoured.  The submission deadline for applications is April 18, 2008.

Since the summer of 2005, PANKKK has introduced a radical new approach to Hungarian cultural policy. This is the first government initiative that aims at improving Hungary's non-classical music scene. PANKKK's main mission is to create a viable environment for high-quality music from the amateur to the professional level. The programme covers all fields of non-classical music, including jazz, folk music, world music, pop, rock and other genres.
