Hungary, together with Belgium and Spain, forms part of a rotating trio currently heading the EU's affairs, and these countries will be reflected in joint performances and productions on the island which hosts one of Europe's biggest outdoor festivals.

The emphasis will be on showing Hungary as an open country, proud of its culture and at home with the values of the EU, the organisers said.

One of the main fixtures will be a so-called European Meeting Point, "an open, inviting, multifaceted and exciting meeting place, a base for getting information about the Madrid-Brussels-Budapest axis," the press release said.

The festival will be held between August 11 and 16 with two preceeding "warm-up" days.
