Hungary in Spotlight at World Fair

Hungarian President László Sólyom and Spain's state secretary in charge of EU affairs at the foreign ministry Diego Lopez Garrido opened Hungarian Day at the 2008 Expo with speeches. Afterward, Eszter Bartók and the band Hangfestők band mixed Hungarian folk with flamenco and tango. Expo-goers also had a chance to meet the Hungarian bicycle messenger Sándor Nagy, who cycled 2,400 kilometres from Budapest to Zaragoza to promote the cause of disabled children.

In the evening, an audience of thousands heard performances by István Páli and his orchestra and the Eszter Bíró Klezmer Band on the Plaza Aragón open-air stage.

 
The 2008 Expo runs from June 14 until September 14. The theme for the fair is Water and Sustainable Development.
