Hungary Marks Anniversary of Fall of Communism

The 20th anniversary of the reburial of Imre Nagy, Hungary's premiere during the failed 1956 revolution, will be celebrated on June 16.

 
On June 27, Hungary will mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the iron curtain with the participation of President László Sólyom and House Speaker Katalin Szili as well as German President Horst Köhler, Austrian President Heinz Fischer, former German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher and former Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel.
 
A performance by the Hungarian State Opera will close the day. Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai and Czech Republic Prime Minister Jan Fischer will speak before the performance.
 
Dignitaries from more than 25 countries will attend the celebration.
On October 23, Hungary will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Hungary.
