The agreement was signed by State Secretary at Hungary's Ministry of Education and Culture Katalin Bogyay and Portuguese ambassador to Hungary Francisco Manuel Guimaraes Henriques da Silva. Hungary's Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz and her Portuguese counterpart Luís Amado were also present at the signing.

"An exceptionally comprehensive framework agreement has been signed, which covers scholarships, cultural exchanges, youth and sport events and language teaching," Göncz said.

Amado said the agreement would give new impetus to cultural ties between Portugal and Hungary.

Just a few areas of cooperation the agreement outlines are between Hungary's and Portugal's state news agencies, between their film professionals and between their writers.
