The Hungarian stand, which is decorated with the portraits of well known Hungarian writers, is opposite one of the main entrances this year, which means visitors automatically "bump into" it, said director of the Hungarian Association of Publishers and Booksellers (MKKE) Péter László Zentai.
The 120-square-metre stand has about a thousand books on display, or just 8pc of the Hungarian publishing industry's annual output. The selection includes not only literature, but books about social studies, nature, science and art. Children's books are also among those on display as are works by Hungarian minorities.
The Hungarian stand plans programmes from Thursday until Sunday, and it will be visited by a number of authors, among them Iván Sándor, László Márton, András Oplatka, who lives in Switzerland, the journalist Ildikó Lovas and György Dalos, who lives in Germany and is a regular participant at the fair.
Oplatka will present his book Der erste Riss in der Mauer (The First Crack in the Wall) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain.
Hungary was the guest of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair ten years ago. This year's guest of honour is China.
