Hungary's First Tap Dance Festival Announced For May 27

The festival has been organised to coincide with World Tap Dance Day, on May 25, which marks the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in 1878. Robinson was a master of the form also practiced by Fred Astaire, Chuck Green, Gene Kelly, Jimmy "Slide", Nicholas Brothers, Gregory Hines and Hony Coles.

Visitors to the festival will learn about the birth and development of tap dance, and become familiar with its styles and most popular forms. In addition to performances by live tap dance groups, archive footage will be shown of tap dance?s greats, including Master Juba, Georges Primrose and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, whose work was integral to perfecting the style of tap dance and exposing black dancers and artists to the public.

The festival will start at 15:00 at the Bábszínház (Puppet Theatre) at Andrássy út 69, in Budapest?s District VI. Tickets are HUF 1,000 and may be purchased at the door or at the Octogon Dance Centre, at Aradi u. 1, also in District VI. Tickets are also available by calling Árpád Pirovits at 06/30-982-9637.
